LIVE MUSIC IS BACK
Once again, we are proud to present extraordinary artists in afternoon programs and our popular evening chamber music concerts featuring members of the Baltimore Symphony. PROOF OF VACCINATION AND MASKS REQUIRED For everyone’s health and safety, Community Concerts at Second will require all audience members to show proof of vaccination and to wear masks at our concerts until further notice. Please arrive early to present proof of vaccination to our volunteers at the entrance to the church. Please check event listings for future updates. REGISTRATIONS REQUESTED For the 2021-22 season we kindly request that you RSVP for our concerts online (available soon) or in person by filling out forms at our events. This is not required and no one will be turned away if they do not register. FALL CONCERTS LIVESTREAMED All five of our fall 2021 concerts will be livestreamed online to accommodate those who do not yet feel comfortable attending live events. BOSTON TRIO
Since their formation in 1997, the trio has become one of today’s most exciting and sought after chamber ensembles. Members include violinist Irina Muresanu, cellist Jonah Ellsworth, and pianist Heng-Jin Park. The trio presents the Baltimore premiere of contemporary composer Stacy Garrop’s Beacon of the Bay along with two time-honored classics: Fauré's Piano Trio in D minor and Brahms' Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major.

BERTA ROJAS, GUITAR
Three-time Latin Grammy nominee Berta Rojas pays homage to a pair of female heroines of classical music, Ida Presti (1924-1967) and Maria Luisa Anido (1907-1996), both composers and guitarists. Her program includes pieces composed by Presti such as Segovia, Dance Rythmique, as well as Anido’s Aire de Vidalita, Triste No 1, and El Misachico and includes Anido’s Portrait, a four-movement piece dedicated to Anido by famed composer Sergio Assad. Ms. Rojas ranks among today’s foremost classical guitarists. She has been praised as “guitarist extraordinaire” by the Washington Post and by Classical Guitar Magazine as “Ambassador of the classical guitar.”

NATHALIE JOACHIM: FANM D’AYITI WITH SPEKTRAL QUARTET
Fanm d’Ayiti (Women of Haiti) is an evening-length work for voice, flute, string quartet and electronics developed by composer/performer Nathalie Joachim. The project features original songs incorporating the recorded voices of Joachim’s grandmother and the girls’ choir of her family’s home farming village of Dantan; new arrangements of songs by some of the greatest known female voices in Haitian history; and recorded interviews with these artists. The work, released in 2019 on New Amsterdam Records as Joachim’s first featured solo album, received a Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album.

Founded in Ann Arbor in 2016, the Ivalas Quartet is composed of violinists Reuben Kebede and Tiani Butts, violist Aimée McAnulty, and cellist Pedro Sánchez. Currently the quartet serves as the Graduate Quartet in residence at The University of Colorado – Boulder where they study under the renowned Takács Quartet. Ivalas presents a wide-ranging program centered around Carlos Simon’s Warmth of Other Suns alongside works by Debussy and Beethoven.
