Established in 1990, the Wonderlic Competition alternates annually between voice and piano and has afforded many young artists the opportunity to launch international music careers. This year’s piano finalists will perform a concert consisting of the challenging repertoire that distinguished them in the competition.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES
TAYLOR WANG
Taylor Wang is a Chinese American pianist pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where she studies with Yoshikazu Nagai. She received a Career Development Grant from the Peabody Institute in 2020 and is the 2021-22 recipient of the Frederick Campbell Colston Memorial Piano Scholarship.
In 2019, Taylor won second place in the Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Later that year, she was invited to play in Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory as part of a special From the Top radio show celebrating the 125th anniversary of Walnut Hill School for the Arts. Taylor also performed the Clara Schumann Piano Concerto as part of the Salute to Clara Schumann on her Bicentennial at the New England Conservatory. In 2020, Taylor closed off the 2019-20 season of the Glissando concert series with a virtual, live-streamed solo concert.
A strong supporter of community outreach through music, Taylor is currently a part of the Music for a While (MFAW) program, a partnership between the Peabody Institute and Johns Hopkins Medicine. In her work with MFAW, she plays regularly at the Johns Hopkins Hospital to bring music to the healthcare environment and increase public access to music.
MIN JOO YI
From Bellevue, Washington, Min Joo Yi is currently a D.M.A. piano performance candidate under Professor Yong-Hi Moon at Peabody Conservatory, where she also completed her M.M and G.P.D. and holds a graduate assistantship in accompanying. She received an A.B. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and a music performance certificate from Princeton University. She has been recognized in the 2020 U.S.A USA National Chopin Piano Competition (semifinalist), 2020 American International Piano Competition (semifinalist), 2019 Yale Gordon Piano Competition (third prize), 2019 Concours International Piano Campus (bronze medal), 2017 Young Artists Concert Series of Sarasota National Competition (fourth prize), 2013 New York Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition (second prize), and the 2011 Schimmel USASU International Piano Competition (bronze medal). Min Joo has also been awarded the 2022 Sarah Stuhlman Zierler Prize, 2022 Albert P. Schaefer Endowed Scholarship for Piano, 2020 & 2021 Caswell and Constance Caplan Career Development Grants, 2018-19 Leo B. Swinderman Prize, 2017 & 2018 Clara Ascherfeld Award, 2017 & 2018 Loraine Bernstein Memorial Fund, and 2014-2016 Princeton University Scheide Scholarship. Her biology research has been published in the journals Frontiers in Microbiology and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), and has been reviewed in PNAS "Front Matter."
NINGXIN ZHAN
Nineteen-year-old Ningxin Zhan was born in Nanjing, China. She started playing piano at the age of five. At the age of nine, Ningxin went to music school affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music as a recipient of annual and multiple other scholarships. She has performed on stages in Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing, Shenzhen, Zunyi,Amalfi Coast, Palm Desert, Baltimore and Fort Myers. Ningxin received the 1st place piano concerto award, 2nd place solo award and best Scriabin performance award at the 2019 Virginia Waring International Piano Competition. She is the third place winner of the 2020 Online Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition and one of the top three finalists of 2021 Vladimir Krainev Moscow international Piano Competition. Currently She studies with Doctor Steven Spooner at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. In her spare time, Ningxin volunteers to play at a local hospital in Nanjing for sick people, in pursuit of spreading classical music as a citizen artist.
